sustainability

BOAVISTA comes at a time when the great challenge of the century is the fight against climate transition. The construction sector has a significant impact on climate change, not only directly, but also in the energy consumption of buildings. Buildings account for 40% of the world’s total energy consumption and more than 1/3 of CO2 emissions (Rocamora, 2018).

Thus, it is necessary to invest in solutions and technology that contribute to a dramatic reduction of mankind’s ecological footprint in its activities. We believe that fibreglass can be a game changer in the industry.

Integrating BOAVISTA’s fibreglass systems into a building’s construction is the clear choice to achieve this goal. Our products have a very small ecological footprint, combined with reduced emissions and pollutant production, when compared to alternative materials.

Throughout the life of the building, the high durability of Boavista windows makes the need for replacement practically nil. Also the high thermal performance helps to reduce the energy consumption of buildings.

Our brand is the first in Europe to develop and manufacture fibreglass frame systems. Our focus is on the sustainability of the products, which are able to combine high durability, high thermal and acoustic performance with a careful and innovative design.

BOAVISTA was founded based on technological innovation and with the vision that it is possible to build better and with a lower environmental impact, without having to make any concessions in design.

When compared to other materials, studies show that, when compared to aluminium, fibreglass frame systems have a very small ecological footprint, with reduced emissions and production of pollutants. The impact is 75% less on energy consumption and that they contribute 80% less to global warming (Saadatian, S.F., 2020).

As far as product life cycle is concerned, studies prove that fibreglass frame systems have a lifespan of 80+ years, which is twice the lifespan of an equivalent aluminium system and four times that of a uPVC system (Broeckx, S. & Suh, S., 2019).

BOAVISTA revolves around sustainability as a whole, and in that regard, we work daily to improve our commitment to the planet.

Carbon ZERO

In addition to all this, we are, since 2019, a Zero Carbon company. BOAVISTA annually renews its commitment to the environment by offsetting all carbon emissions produced in each calendar year working with Ponto Verde Serviços- for this purpose.

This process requires an exhaustive data collection from our team regarding all activities that may have production of pollutant emissions, such as transport, fleet, energy consumption, waste production, among others. The calculation of the CO2 equivalent footprint is done annually and, in order to minimize the impact of the footprint, carbon dioxide offsetting is done by planting trees in Portuguese forests.

Since 2019, despite the company’s growth, BOAVISTA’s carbon emissions have remained stable in overall terms, and there was even a slight reduction in emissions from 2021 compared to 2020.

FIBREGLASS

An innovative choice with a low ecological footprint

The base material of BOAVISTA windows is silica (sand), an abundant resource, of simple extraction and friendly to the environment. This means that, since its origin, fibreglass has a reduced ecological footprint.

Furthermore, its production process – pultrusion – has low energy consumption and high durability. We therefore obtain a product that throughout its life cycle has a reduced environmental impact in our ecosystem.

The fibreglass profiles used in the entire range of BOAVISTA windows are produced through a technology called PULTRUSION.

FIBREGLASS – WHAT IS IT?

Fibreglass is a composite material reinforced with high quality glass fibres. Materials are the stuff of design and the main advantage of a composite material is the potential to combine the very best characteristics of each individual component into one product.

The principle being that the sum of the whole is greater than the sum of its component parts.

Developments in production now mean that any fibreglass product is impervious to chemical degradation, resistant to high and low temperatures and will have outstanding durability.

Over the last few decades these material improvements mean that fibreglass has also been gaining ground in a wide range of product design sectors from furniture to buildings and especially in demanding environments.

Thanks to this, fibreglass has been gaining a prominent place in the most varied areas of application, standing out in the aeronautical, automotive and construction industries.

Fibreglass is highly resistant to warping, twisting, rotting, cracking or shrinking. It will remain strong and watertight under duress.
Fibreglass windows will ensure that repairs and maintenance costs are kept to a minimum. Wherever your project and whatever the climate install a product that provides real longevity and durability.
Beautiful and Useful – MINIMALIST

Technical advances in the fibreglass pultrusion process mean that complex window profiles are now possible. They have both visual and tactile appeal.

The strength of the fibreglass frame means reduced frame thickness and increased glass surface area helping you to maximize natural lighting.

Design and install windows that are both beautiful and at the cutting edge of fitness for purpose.

HOW ARE FIBREGLASS PROFILES TRANSFORMED INTO WINDOWS?

The BOAVISTA fibreglass pultruded profiles are machined and cut like traditional aluminium systems and can therefore be turned into windows by any experienced manufacturer, using standard machinery.

Without bonding or welding, the BOAVISTA window and door manufacturing system is simple and fast.
